    good point Bakari! I'll add those in later. Briefly though. Kindred is an amazing cross between a slave narrative and mild sci-fi story. It's a beautiful concept. Scanner Darkly is seriously, seriously weird. With the movie coming out. I wanted to read the words. Crashing the Gate is an inspiring political rallying cry for anyone frustrated with the democratic party. More lata

    kindred is a must read. at the moment, that's the only octavia butler book i've read. i want to read more science fiction.

    Octavia Butler is one of my spiritual mothers (along with Nina Simone, Toto Bissainthe, Toni Cade Bambara) who fortunately/unfortunately is now an ancestor.
