It's funny, your perceptive comments are the first ones by another African-American Obama supporter defending the cover; I more or less echo your sentiments, but, I have to say, the euphoria over Obama means that when I express my views about the cartoon I am cast as a race traitor -- by, of all people, those who jumped on the BHO train after he clinched the nomination, well after those of us who spent hours working for his nomination. On some level I understand it; people are afraid that, being so close to achieving that dream, someone will snatch from us at the 11th hour. While it's cool, and intellectually interesting to have this debate, at the end of the day we should keep our eye on the ball -- folks want affordable health care, an end to an illegal war, a sane energy policy, closure of the gulag in Cuba, etc., etc., etc. So lets get back on those issues; and, NO, I won't cancel my New Yorker subscription, Lord knows this country needs more good satire.

So nice, you're using Disqus. Anyway I'm on vacation too, and it's hard to keep up given what they call broadband here North of Dublin.... Anyhoo yes, I knew Jesse Jackson wast past his "best if used by" date when he came down on the wrong side on the Terry Schiavo Fiasco. He should run things by his son before opening his mouth, that one.

Anyway, really did love the Brian Lehrer talk. I'll keep in touch --
